Apple has announced that users have downloaded more than 100 million applications from its Mac App Store in less than a year after being launched. Officially launched in January 2011, the Mac App Store was designed to reflect the App Store experience, enabling users to easily discover new applications, make purchases using their iTunes account, and download and install apps in one click.

For the past few months Hewlett and Packard has been rather silent about their plans concerning the future of their webOS which ran on several HP’s smartphones and TouchPad tablet. Just two months after the launch, the company decided to shut down the TouchPad product line and count their losses, but it remained unclear what will happen with the webOS.

Microsoft will roll out a major free upgrade to Xbox 360 on Tuesday, December 6, with the promise of transforming the gaming console into a device that encompasses all of the users’ entertainment. The update features a new interface and a host of new features and digital entertainment content. The design of a new user interface mirrors Metro interface which is arriving on Windows 8 in late 2012.

Spending on mobile computing, cloud services, social networking, and big data analytics technologies is growing at about 18% per year and, according to IDC, it is expected to account for at least 80% of IT spending growth by 2020. IDC predicts that 2012 will see some of the first high-stakes battles as IT vendors strive to achieve dominance in these highly important and rapidly growing technology areas.
