McAfee Security Offering on Facebook Expanded to 41 Countries
McAfee announced today that its security software is now available to Facebook users in 41 countries, a major milestone in the attempt to secure the Internet and reduce global cybercrime.
Facebook users simply click “Like” on the McAfee Facebook page (www.facebook.com/mcafee), go to the “McAfee 4 Free” section, and choose their country from the drop-down menu in order to download a six-month subscription to the McAfee® AntiVirus Plus software. The software protects users’ PCs from online threats, viruses, spyware, other malware, and includes the award-winning McAfee® SiteAdvisor® web site rating technology. After the six-month McAfee AntiVirus Plus subscription period, Facebook users may be eligible for special discount subscription pricing.
The McAfee software is now available to Facebook users who reside in these countries:

“By offering a six-month subscription of McAfee security software to any of Facebook’s over 500 million users who like our Page, we’re helping a significant portion of the Internet population protect their online accounts and computers,” said Todd Gebhart, executive vice president and general manager, McAfee Consumer, Mobile and Small Business. “The online threat landscape is global and expanding our offering to more than 41 countries allows us to provide protection from cybercriminal activity to even more people around the world.”
McAfee, which has more than 466,000 fans, is at the forefront of educating consumers about the importance of Internet security.
Major campaigns include “Who Broke the Internet,” which highlights the importance of computer security protection by engaging users with an interactive video application that is personalized with information from the consumers’ Facebook profiles, and “Spam Cappella”, which aims to shine light on the different types of spam and phishing messages with a series of five short videos of characters singing the words from actual spam emails. The “Most Unwanted List” is the newest campaign and hopes to educate users to help better protect their information while online and offline. It shows users a list of characters, such as Dumpster Diver Dan, and Leonard Skimmer, who steals victims’ account information by attaching a device to a bank ATM.
In addition to providing people who like its Page with access to McAfee AntiVirus Plus, McAfee works with Facebook to provide Facebook users with additional security protection through a custom McAfee Scan and Repair tool, which is a free, browser-based virus scanning tool that cleans the machine of malware. Facebook requires users who have been affected by malware to use this tool before accessing their accounts.
